It's Time to Taste Your World
Lyn Farmer, DipWSET, is a James Beard Award-winning wine and food writer, WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Certified Educator, festival director, arts ambassador and public speaker.
His mission? Engaging the Senses - One Glass, One Bite, One Image, One Experience at a time. It's time to taste your world...
It's time to make a plan! Become an activist-taster and hone your skills to enhance your appreciation of wine, food and life in general! I devote a substantial part of my time to wine education and teach many courses for various WSET Approved Program Providers (APPs) including Fine Vintage, Ltd, North America’s leading provider of WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust), Florida Wine Academy in Miami and Vitis House in Raleigh, NC. You can see the courses I teach on the Wine Course Summary page. I also write for several publications, direct a major wine festival in Miami, Florida (VeritageMiami), lead seminars for trade organizations (including quasi-governmental organizations in France, Italy, Austria and other countries), create corporate beverage training programs and develop education programs linking culture and the arts. See below for more details.
Life is a communal experience and wine, food, art and travel are best appreciated when they are shared. I share ideas in both public and trade presentations, speeches, seminars and, of course, my blog, Engaging the Senses. This is a continuing reflection on how the good things in life can propel our interaction with the wider world. Wine, food, performing arts, visual arts and travel all intersect to provide a rich and fulfilling (not to mention tasty) life experience. That experience is available for sharing - you won't go hungry or thirsty here!
Educate
As a WSET Certified Educator I lead courses (both WSET and others) for several suppliers, including Fine Vintage Ltd, Florida Wine Academy in Miami, and Vitis House in Raleigh. For a complete list of all the courses I teach, check the Wine Courses page or, to get some additional ideas, see, “Why Take a Wine Class?” That page addresses some common questions about wine classes. You can also check out the events page on the website (and a few soon-to-come events are listed below as well). My teaching in 2024 focuses mainly on classes in Augusta, Chicago, Miami, Raleigh, NC and Washington, DC.
Vision is an important part of engaging the senses as both a means of expression and a key to recollection. These photo galleries are compiled from my extensive work as a travel photographer. Here are small collections of some of my favorite photos over the last few years of tasting, teaching and travel. This collection also includes a selection of past print articles and an archive of tasting notes. Come - let's stroll ancient landscapes, walk through some vineyards, taste some wine and drink in our surroundings.
Upcoming Events With Lyn
In late 2024 I’ll return to Chicago to lead a Level 3 course in October in that wonderful wine market, and I’ll also be teaching in Washington, DC, Miami and Raleigh as well as other locations around the country. Here are five upcoming events; to see more events over the next few months, visit the Events Page on this website. The events listing show appearances and courses open to the public. I do many events for private clients such as Nestlé Premium Waters, as well but do not include them in the events listings.
If you are a serious wine lover or work with wine as a professional, you will want to earn the green lapel pin that shows you have reached the Advanced Level of WSET Studies. Level 3 is a comprehensive look at wine - how grapes are grown, how wine is made and what it tastes like around the world. Click here for all the details on this course being offered at the Hilton Garden Inn Central Loop in Downtown Chicago..
