The Boston Pops practically invented the term, and the concept, of a Pops Concert. The orchestra, an offshoot of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, comes to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts with a program led by music director (and all-round music evangelist) Keith Lockhart. Lockhart calls the Boston Pops, "the perfect orchestra from people who don't know they like orchestras!"
In this presentation, free to all concert ticket holders, we'll explore the history of pops concerts (it's not nearly as dry as that may sound, and to be sure it's not dry, we'll have a wine tasting as well), and I'll tell some stories from my travels with the Boston Pops. The program is typical Pops, which means predictably entertaining and wonderful, with music by Bernstein, Copland and Gershwin, and John Williams, Dave Brubeck and The Beatles. Rock on!
